Educating ourselves about the histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and why it plays such a big part in our lives.
It gives Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures that ensure we are being aware of one’s own world view and developing positive attitudes towards the different cultures.
It is our role to gain knowledge, truth and an understanding of the First Nation peoples cultural practices with developing skills for communication and interactions that are respectfully embedded and delivered to not only the children in the Early Years, but for us as adults to either undo the learning we were taught or learn what we didn't know. Inclusion is a fundamental requirement for positive communication, and it starts with a learning—and often unlearning—process.
