Family Violence & Intervention Orders Guide

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Family Violence & Intervention Orders Introduction

An intervention order is a court order designed to protect a person, their children and their property from someone who is using violence, threatening them or making them feel unsafe.

There are two types of intervention orders:

An intervention order is a civil matter and will not appear on a criminal record. However, if a respondent breaks the rules on an intervention order they can be charged by the police with a criminal offence โ€“ this is called a โ€œbreachโ€.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Intervention Orders Purpose

At times our Woodlands families may go through difficult times which results in intervention orders being put in place to outline expectations. For example, there may be an intervention in place which has been issued by the Courts to stop a mother from seeing and picking up her children and that the father has full custody until further notice. These orders are to ensure there are clear expectations about the parents and what they can and can't do in relation to the Intervention order.

Without clear guidance or a letter from the courts, we can not stop the biological father or mother from seeing and picking up their children from Woodlands, in some cases, parents use their children as a holding card or negotiation tool. Many parents request the other parent cannot pick up their children but without a court letter, we can not accommodate this request.
