An early childhood setting plays a significant role in preparing children and families as their transition to a school setting.

The kindergarten program highlights the significance of school readiness and aims to encourage children to adopt the learning skills necessary to thrive in a school environment. Throughout the year teachers/educators will support children to develop many skills that will be transferable to the school environment.

 Lunch box program:

In term 4, Woodlands introduces the β€˜lunch box program’ where all children who are transitioning into primary school have the opportunity to bring in a packed lunch box. The aim of the program is for children to practice a lunch routine similar to a primary school setting, with the support and encouragement of our Teachers and Educators.

The learning outcomes of the program involve:

  • Understanding what a packed lunch is.
  • Opening lunch boxes and eating from them.
  • Learning to peel banana skins
  • Unwrapping food packaging
  • Learning the benefits of eating healthy and balanced foods.
  • Understanding what to eat for morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea
  • Experiencing responsibility for personal items
